Baja Bush Pilots Feel at Home in Mulegé

Guest post by John Rovens

Ernesto Sanchez, newly elected Delegado Municipal Heroica Mulegé, “Mayor” of Mulegé, Baja California Sur, thanked Jack McCormick, President of the Queen Creek, Arizona-based Baja Bush Pilots, for the organization’s thirty-year economic commitment to Mulegé and the surrounding community.

Every year about 70 some American aircraft led by McCormick fly into Mulegé and base the center of their operations at the Hotel Serinidad during their organization’s Whale watching event. This annual visit has infused tens of millions of pesos into the Mulegé economy.

On March 3, 2025, Mayor Sanchez welcomed McCormick and about two hundred of the some 4,000 pilot members to the Bush Pilot’s annual street fiesta at the historic Las Casitas restaurant in downtown Mulege. On behalf of Mulegé, Mayor Sanchez offered “our thanks for becoming members of our community and a key economic partner. He added, “We appreciate your patronage and love of our community and our people. We appreciate your choice of Mulegé for your Whales activities. As the Mayor, in a show of our community’s appreciation, we declare today and the rest of the week Jack McCormick and Baja Bush Pilot Appreciation Week. We look forward to hosting you for many years into the future.”

McCormick, speaking on behalf of the Baja Bush Pilots, now officially Bush Pilots International, which provides resources and services to private plane pilots flying into foreign countries, responded, “We always have felt welcome in Mulegé. We feel like a member of this great community, its beauty and diverse tourism activities.” He concluded, “We come to Mulegé because it’s a picturesque, safe and a friendly town. It is the “Real Mexico”.

The local business owners we work with are consistently responsive. They understand our needs and requirements and always deliver high quality. And now we have a great advocate and new partner in Mayor Ernesto Sanchez”.

    Nice article Scott!

I saw these pilots all over town while they were here. What a great event for the town and for the bush pilots.

Thanks to them for choosing Mulege’ for their annual fly-in.
